THE PARTY

About an hour into our feast the band will be hitting the stage for four solid hours of dancing as we party our way into 2015 and say farewell to 2014.

As we hit the magic Midnight Hour the champagne will flow as everyone will don their party hats and noisemakers to raise a ruckus that will be heard all the way back in Annapolis!

We'll be playing all your favorite dance music, with a variety that will span multiple decades.  From the Andrews Sisters to Lady GaGa, we'll be bringing it all, as we bring multiple generations together on the dance floor to celebrate together.

But wait...we're not done yet!!!

THE AFTERPARTY

Then, as we hit the 1:00 hour, the folks at La Fontaine Bleue will roll out a Continental Breakfast that will satiate those hunger pangs after an evening of dancing.  Hey...no stops at McDonalds after THIS show!!!  Fritatas made with farm fresh eggs, bacon, fresh-made waffles, coffee, tea, decaf and more!

It gives the band an opportunity to come out to say hi to everyone and socialize for a while.  You folks have supported the band for so many years we sometimes find it tough that we can't come out to spend more time with everyone.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

ACCOMMODATIONS

Of course we want everyone to get home safely after a night like this.  There are numerous hotels nearby with door to door shuttle service so you won't have to drive home.  The folks at La Fontaine Bleue will be happy to make recommendations based on your needs, amenities desired, and of course the rates.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>

WHAT DO I WEAR?

As with last year, the basic rule is "dress to impress".  The band will be decked out in our best formalwear, and we recommend a business casual attire at a minimum.  Ladies, we'd like to see you in your stunning best!

Folks come in costumes ranging from extremely simple to fantastically elaborate.  From the sexiest sexy to the most horrific gruesome, to your favorite cartoon characters and superheros, we have them all.

The Music

Of course the main reason people come to these performances is to DANCE, and we've got ya covered there as well.  We'll be bringing back our Halloween favorites like Monster Mash, Thriller, and Ghostbusters, to supplement our regular mix of your favorite dance music spanning the last 50 years (or more).

Independence Day 2014 Concert & Fireworks - City of Laurel

On Saturday, July 5th Oracle Band will be performing for the annual City Of Laurel Independence Day festivities at Granville - Gude Park at Laurel Lakes in Laurel Maryland.  The music will start around 5:00 and will go right up to the spectacular fireworks display scheduled to begin around 9:15.

This event is free and open to the general public.  Bring blankets or lawn chairs as there is next to no seating available in the park.

Still 1.5 hours away from the fireworks and the crowd continues to swell!

Last year's temperatures were certainly better than those of 2012, when the thermometer hit 105° right around concert time, but even then we had some hardy souls in attendance.  This year we are once again asking Mother Nature for some compassion after that rather overwhelming day two years ago...but hey...she can be rather fickle when she wants to be, so send up your positive vibes for a dry and relatively comfortable day!

Oh yeah...it DOES get a little toasty on stage!

The concert will be held at the beautiful concert pavilion on the grounds of Granville-Gude park at Laurel Lakes.  It's just off Route 1, near Laurel Mall.  It is very easy to get to.

Directions to Granville-Gude Park

There is something for everyone at the Laurel celebration.

For starters there is of course the parade.  Laurel residents have turned out in the thousands for many years to watch the parade, which begins around 9:00 on Montgomery Ave and ends up at Cherry Lane near what used to be Laurel Mall.

Then there will be a car show starting at 12:00 noon in the field just above the concert pavilion.

At 2:30 the Hot Dog eating contest gets underway...registration is at 2:00 for that event...come one come all!

At 3:00 there will be field events and games for the kids to participate in, followed by the official opening of the ceremonies at the park with the flag raising and the National Anthem.  Prize winners for the parade and the car competition will be announced at this time as well.

There are face painters and moon bounces for the kids. Then of course, there is the FOOD!

You name it.  Burgers, chicken & dogs, funnel cakes and cotton candy, lemonade and smoothies, pulled pork & pit beef, egg rolls, sausages, the list goes on and on.  Want to save some $$$?  Bring your own picnic!

Coolers are permitted but alcohol is prohibited.  Oh, and of course, don't forget your blanket or lawn chairs.

The complete schedule can be found on the City of Laurel Independence Day Website.  You can also ask questions and find more information on their FaceBook Page.

The concert will begin around 5:15 in the afternoon, and we'll be playing right up to the start of the fireworks around 9:15.

You're welcome to come on down to the stage early and say hi, and let us know if there are any songs you'd especially like to hear that might be appropriate for the concert.  Whether it's 75 people or 75,000, we still take requests if we can!

We're expecting an estimated 75,000 - 100,000 people for this event, and when expecting an audience this large you can better believe we'll be PUMPED!

Don't forget to be ready to DANCE.  Oh yes...these folks dance...from the first note to the last.  We get some positively HUGE groups up for Electric Slide and Cupid Shuffle, and you look out into the audience and you'll see folks of all ages dancing literally EVERYWHERE!

Does it get any cuter than this?

We really want to see a lot of familiar faces down front as we kick off the show, so come on down early and get the good parking spots, and lets have a good time together!  Many of our fans like to "camp out" together and enjoy the show together.

Oracle Fans with a shady spot staked out!

You can also view our photos on the band's Facebook page.  We encourage everyone who is a Facebook member to become a fan of of the band and catch all our regular updates there.

Great Party...Oracle Band at Blob's Park - Valentines Day 2014

When's the last time that Valentine's Day fell on a Friday?  Well, it's been at least 7 years, so it's been a while.

We took advantage of this rare occurrence by having a Valentine's Day party at the soon-to-close-forever Blob's Park Bavarian Beer Garden in Jessup Md on Friday, February 14th.

Blob's recently announced that they were about to close their doors forever at the end of March, so this was originally going to be our farewell performance here.  It would seem that Mother Nature and fate had other ideas.

First off, we got anywhere from 12" to 17" of snow just two days before the big show.  Events were being cancelled all over town, flower deliveries were getting put on hold, and it seemed as if the day for lovers would be a victim of Mother Nature's stubbornness in reminding Marylanders what winter was REALLY like.

Well, folks didn't need Mother Nature sticking her nose in, and a positively huge crowd of over 400 people, singles and couples, came out to dance, sing, and party the night away, as the folks at Blob's got the parking lots cleared of snow just in time for opening.  We even had to do a little shoveling ourselves to load in...but we brought our own shovel!!!

Perhaps you've heard the performer's mantra, "the show must go on".  Well, go on it did, snow or no snow, as you can see from the photos.

The best news of all to come from the performance is that we are to be given one final opportunity to perform at Blob's Park before they close their doors.  On Friday, March 28th, the final weekend of existence for Blob's, Oracle will once again take the stage of this historic venue to bring the sounds and songs of the past 70 or so years to this hall that has seen bands performing since 1933.

An evening with this many people wouldn't be complete unless there were some special and magic moments, and this evening was no exception.

The first was having our friend Monique back with us on the dance floor after an absence of a very long time.  Monique has faced more challenges than anyone should ever have to face, and has taken them in stride, always remaining positive that she would eventually return to the dance floor despite the "experts" who didn't think this would ever be possible.  How could one NOT be inspired?

Then there was the wide variety of people we had out on the dance floor, from the young to the young at heart, of every race and a couple dozen nationalities.

We'll have more on this upcoming Blob's Park performance coming in a subsequent post.  For now, we hope you'll enjoy the photos from this very special evening.

The end of an era - Blob's Park to close forever

We knew the day would come...we just didn't expect it to arrive quite this quickly.  On March 30th Blob's Park, an icon in the Washington / Baltimore area, will close it's doors forever.

On Friday, February 14th Oracle Band will perform for the last time at this historic venue, which originally opened back in 1933.  Ironically, it was almost exactly one year to the day that Oracle first performed at Blobs for their Valentine's Dance.

Here we are a year later and Blob's feels like home, with so many friends that come out to attend our performances there...it's as if we've been playing there for a decade.

As you probably know, Blob's Park was the scene of our Philippine Disaster benefit dance just a couple of short months ago, with so many people coming out to pitch in to help support the victims of Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda), marking one of the largest benefits we have ever put together, and the good folks at Blobs graciously donated the facility so we could raise even more.

Just a few weeks earlier we had our most successful and well attended Halloween party at Blob's, with over 500 friends in attendance!

While this coming weekend's show is billed as a Valentine's Day dance, please don't think that this event is for couples only.  We have a number of singles organizations that are planning on attending, and everyone regardless of your relationship status is invited.  Believe us...there WILL be plenty of people to dance with!!!  There will be no wallflowers allowed at this performance!!!

We are looking for a full house as a way of saying "thank you" to Max and the folks at Blob's that have been so good to us over the course of the last year.  It would do our hearts good to see the largest crowd Blob's has ever seen in attendance, and you can help make this happen just be being there.  We'll be bringing the whole show, with every intention of making this performance one for the record books!

Best of all, the standard cover charge of $10 applies...there is no hike in admission even though this is a special performance on a special day.  All tickets are sold at the door.

Here's a little video clip from one of last year's performances at Blobs.

Blob's is a great place for groups to come.  Celebrating a birthday, anniversary, promotion, or other significant event?  Blob's has PLENTY of space, with large tables that can easily accommodate the largest groups.  Just make sure to give them a call a few days in advance so they can plan the room accordingly.  There is no additional charge for larger groups...they are more than happy to accommodate.

Reservations are accepted 24 hours in advance.  Call 410 799-7130 to make your reservation.

The band starts playing at 8:00, and we go up to around 12:00.

Blob's Park is easy to get to.  Located right off the Baltimore - Washington Parkway at Route 175 in Jessup, you can be there in under 30 minutes from either Baltimore or Washington's Beltways and virtually all of the towns in between!

Directions to Blob's Park

Please, no outside food or drinks are permitted, although birthday cakes are permitted with advance notice.
