As you are aware Typhoon Haiyan (or "Yolanda" as it was called over there), recently decimated the central Philippines, wiping out entire towns, killing thousands, and leaving tens of thousands homeless.
After seeing the photos of the devastation we knew immediately that we wanted to do something to help ease the suffering and aid in the relief effort.
We were fortunate to team up with the management at Blob's Park Bavarian Beer Garden and quickly schedule a date we could host a fundraiser. The proceeds from the door are being donated to the cause, as are the proceeds from the 50-50 drawing, money wheel, and raffles.
We have selected IMPACT Foundation of the Philippines to be the beneficiary of the funds we raise. When not faced with complete devastation such as this they have been working since 1990 to provide health education, immunizations, health screenings, and nutritional assistance to thousands of people scattered across dozens of islands.
They had the logistics teams in place to help get the needed supplies out to the survivors as quickly as possible, and have the medical resources to help ward off the many diseases that are inherent with flooding, decay, and death.
When we announced our decision as to which organization would be the recipient of our donation, we received the following letter from the current President & CEO of IMPACT Foundation of the Philippines:
==============================================
Appeal for Typhoon Haiyan
To our dear friends in Maryland
You may have seen how Typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda as we call it here has battered our country in the news. The people are in desperate need of help, they need food, water, and medicine. Many have become what we call totally displaced, meaning they no longer have homes. The situation is urgent so we are all trying to do what we can to help from our end. We are asking for yours as well.
We are a country that is pounded by 20 typhoons a year but recently they became stronger and more frequent. Even if they are used to typhoons the people in that area were caught unaware. They did their part by preparing for this strongest storm in recorded history even as early as three days before moving inland, preparing reserve relief goods and yet the force of nature was greater than they could imagine. In the aftermath of the storm, we know that the destruction was over a very big area across the Visayas composed of scattered smaller islands, big main islands with urbanized areas, almost all 90% destroyed. It is a logistical nightmare. Those who were supposed to help are either missing, dead, displaced or grieving. There is no infrastructure left, no electricity, no water, no hospitals, schools, roads are blocked, debris is everywhere. There was no way out.
IMPACT Foundation of the Philippines was fortunate to receive donations from members of our IMPACT Family all around the world. However the need is so enormous, the sheer number of people who need help is almost beyond our imagination so we have to ask for more people to help out. We are a lean organization, we can make fast decisions based on the situation and we have 20 years of building networks and partnerships, the good will we have earned we use to get things moving faster to reach those not reached by the bigger organizations.
Right now, we are focusing our attention to the tip of Northern Cebu and nearby islands as they were isolated initially from the rest of the world for the first 5 days. They were the site of the 5th landfall. One week into the relief effort they have only received one cycle of food, good for one day and some have not received anything at all. We have direct contact by phone with those tasked to care for these survivors so this we know and they are getting desperate.
So as of today we have pledged for our first effort, 2000 family packs (one pack can feed a family of 5 for 3 days) to the municipalities of Daanbantayan, San Remigio and Medellin and also much needed medicines for their mobile clinics that they conduct daily in the villages. These family packs cost roughly $6 each without cost of transport, and the medicines are good for 500-600 children. It costs $600 for to serve one village or one dollar for each patient for fever, cough and cold medicines. This is our rapid response phase and at the same time we will seeing for ourselves what the survivors really need so we can plan. We cannot go to assess the situation empty handed. We will have many more waves and cycles of giving and many more places to go.
Your dollar will definitely go a long way. The locals in Cebu City are going to match the amount donated from abroad by providing transport, packing of goods, trucking and airfreight. And to think the people still have not recovered from the 7.2 earthquake last October, they still have strong aftershocks every day.
We need help, your help. We know we cannot repay your generosity any time soon but please remember us as we send our gratitude through our fellow Filipinos, our family in the Oracle Band who through their music give you some measure of happiness. We Filipinos say “Mabuhay” to all of you. Some think it means hooray because of the way we say it but it actually means … go and live on!
Dr Marie Christine Perfecto , Impact Foundation of the Philippines

Come Support the Kids at Gambrills Athletic Club Bull & Oyster Roast
Gambrills Bull & Oyster Roast This Saturday November 2nd!
They're famous. It's that simple.
Scrumptious food, great music, great people, and dancing until the wee hours.
That's what's in store as Oracle returns for the 8th consecutive year to the annual Gambrills Athletic Club Bull & Oyster Roast, held this Saturday, November 2nd.
This is a benefit that helps raise funds for the athletic programs at Gambrills. Let's face it...kids involved in sports don't have time to get into trouble. In this day and age when sports programs are being cut back and the opportunities for kids to participate are dwindling, Gambrills continues to offer a great program to serve the community.
And at this time of year we need all our friends to step up and help support this worthwhile group. There are still plenty of tickets remaining for this party. Between the food, the beer, and the music, you're not only having a great time but you're helping to support a deserving group of kids at the same time!!!
The menu for this fantastic benefit is impressive. Check out these offerings:
- GAC Famous Open Pit Beef sliced to order
- Raw Oysters on the Half Shell
- Fried Oysters
- Oyster stew
- Fresh Ham
- Country Sausage on the Pit
- Mashed Potatoes & Gravy
- Green Beans
- Sauerkraut with Fresh Pork Sausage
- Fresh Relish Tray
- Assorted Rolls & Bread
- Iced Sheet Cakes
- Sodas
- Draft Beer
In addition to the incredible menu, there will be several games of chance going on, including a 50-50 drawing, Big Six Wheel, Vegas Tickets, and a Plant / Whiskey Wheel.
Tickets
Tickets are $40 per person, and you must be 21 or older to attend.Tickets for this event may be purchased by calling:
- Steve Kuczinski - 410-969-2845 - 410-919-8809
- Bobby Gentile - 410-987-1142 - 443-336-8954
This is one of the first times that we can remember that there are still tickets remaining at this late date! Usually folks are complaining that the tickets have sold out before they get a chance to purchase any! Don't miss your chance...CALL TODAY!!! From what we were told there are still about 50 seats remaining.
Doors open around 6:30 and the food comes out at 7:00. The Oracle will take over and we'll be rockin' the dance floor right up until midnight!
The clubhouse is located on McKnew Rd, just off Route 175, near Route 3.
Here's a little video clip taken at the 2012 event in November. We hope you enjoy, and we hope you'll consider joining us this year!

Big Halloween Party Coming Up - Are You Ready for a "THRILLER"???
ORACLE BAND HALLOWEEN PARTY!!!
This Friday, November 1st Oracle Band will be hosting our annual Halloween party at Blobs Park in Jessup Md.
The party starts at 8:00 and goes right up to the "witching hour" of midnight, at which point we all turn into pumpkins, (or something like that)!
Those that have been to our Halloween parties in the past know that we don't hold anything back...it is a party from start to finish, (and sometimes a little PAST the finish)!!!
We realize that a lot of people went to parties this past weekend. That's cool. This gives you all an opportunity to get even more use out of those costumes and do it all over again, but this time a little closer to Halloween! Even better...we'll have EVERYONE ready to party since we won't be competing with so many other Halloween Parties.
Look at it this way. The kids get to go trick or treating on Thursday night, and the ADULTS get to come out to play on FRIDAY night!!! Hey...it's only fair...right?
What makes Blob's Park better than the other places? In a word...SPACE!!! The dance floor at Blob's is positively HUGE, with room enough for everyone to so off their creativity in terms of costumes and in terms of their dance moves.
This is going to be a great place for a large group of friends. With all the room at Blob's there is enough space to put groups of 10, 15, 25, or even MORE people together. Is there someone with a birthday coming up as well? Let us know, bring the whole gang out, and we'll make sure it's acknowledged properly! Bring the whole office! Getting married sometime in the near future? Bring your whole bridal party, or make it the best Bachelorette Party in history!
Costume Contests
This year there will be FOUR prizes awarded for costumes. Categories are as follows:
- Best Couple
- Scariest
- Most Creative
- Best Overall

Photos from American Legion Auxiliary Fundraiser - October 2013
It is always a pleasure to perform for the folks at the American Legion. Whether for the Legion, the Sons of the American Legion, or in this case the American Legion Auxiliary, these folks are the best!!!
For this occasion we were at the American Legion Post 40 in Glen Burnie Maryland for the annual Auxiliary Dinner and Dance fundraiser.
The sold out crowd helped raise funds to support the various activities supported by the Auxiliary. The dinner was scrumptious, and once the music got going the dance floor was full from the first note to the last.
These photos have also been posted to our FaceBook Page where you can comment as well as tag yourselves and your friends that were here. You can also click on the slideshow to go to our Flickr page where you can download and of the individual photos.
We hope you enjoy. Thanks again to everyone that came out to support this worthwhile cause.

Get Ready for Blob's - Oracle Is Coming This Friday!!!
That's right...Oracle Band will be returning to Blob's Park Dance Hall in Jessup Maryland this coming Friday, September 6th.
OK...so the name sounds kind of strange, but Blob's Park has been a fixture in the Washington / Baltimore area since 1933! Countless bands have performed here, and while it earned it's reputation as a Polka Palace, the format has evolved to where all sorts of variety bands perform here now.
Best of all, the dance floor at Blob's Park is positively HUGE! By far the largest dance floor in the entire area, there is plenty of room for everyone to show off their best dance moves.
Blob's was home to the very first Oktoberfest in America, and the tradition continues to this day. The selection of beers is nothing short of amazing, with brews from all over the world, (and of course plenty of domestic beers for you all-American traditionalists!)
While there is sufficient seating for literally hundreds, we have been packing the place pretty good lately, so we definitely encourage you to make reservations to ensure a good seat near the dance floor. Call 410-799-7130 or e-mail info@blobspark.net to make your reservations.
Blob's is a perfect place for larger groups to get together to celebrate. Whether it's a birthday, anniversary, promotion, High School or College reunion, or Bachelorette Party, Blob's can accommodate your group. Once again, just make sure you call ahead to get a spot reserved!
If you are into authentic German cuisine you simply have to come early for dinner and check out the menu. There are schnitzels and bratwursts and a bunch of other things we can't even begin to pronounce, but it doesn't get much more authentic than this. And for those with less adventurous palettes they offer American fare as well.
We have been thrilled with the response we've received from the audiences here since we started performing at Blob's back in February. We're really looking forward to seeing several hundred faces out in the audience this coming Friday night!
Blobs is really easy to get to. It's located just off the Baltimore-Washington Parkway at Route 175 in Jessup. Take to Route 175 exit going east, and make a right at the first traffic light onto Max Blob's Park Road and follow it down about a mile to the club.

Oracle Band visits IBEW summer picnic 2013
Our return to Camp Letts down in Edgewater Md was threatening to become a washout as the weather threatened and raindrops were falling the entire trip out to set up.
This is the annual picnic for the folks with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 26.
This years event (this was our third performance here) brought us a new stage location and the addition of a dance floor. The addition of the dance floor was especially welcome as past years had lots of people wanting to dance but having a bit of a difficult time of it in the grass and dirt.
Fortunately our excellent relationship with Mother Nature once again proved to be a blessing and the skies, although remaining cloudy, did not open up on us and waited until we were about to break down before starting to dribble on us!
The cloudy skies were also a blessing in that they kept the temperature down...something of a blessing for an outdoor event in August in the DC area!!!
Anyway, we had a blast, the crowd was overwhelming in it's approval, and the dance floor got a good workout. (Who says you can't get people to dance in the afternoon at an outdoor event???)
Enjoy the photos!

Oracle Band - The Final Whispers Performance - July 2013
It was the end of a mini-era. Our "home away from home", our home base, the place that we could virtually guarantee a sellout no matter what the weather and what the season...one of our most favorite places to play ever...Whispers Restaurant is now closed forever.
After 83 performances, starting with the first back in 2005 when they hadn't even been permitted to install a dance floor, Oracle has been packing the house at Whispers.
Little did we know that this would be our final performance. If we had known we could have given her a proper sendoff, but as it is, we will only have our memories of this wonderful club that brought folks of ALL ages together on the dance floor to have a great time.
So, we hope you enjoy these photos from our final performance at Whispers. We wish everyone there the very best, and we'll be looking for new venues to perfrom in to help fill the void, but nothing will ever replace WHISPERS!!!

Photos from Blob's Park performance - July 2013
Wow! Not much more to say about a night like this, as over 500 friends came out to fill the dance floor at Blob's Park in Jessup Maryland on Friday the 12th.
Built in1933 by Max Blob, a German immigrant to America, the hall has been hosting bands for 80 years, and Oracle is proud to be a part of it's continued success.
The 2500 square foot dance floor was pretty much packed all night long, and the view from up on stage was really something special!
Please enjoy the photos. Oracle will be returning to Blob's Park on Friday, September 6th. Mark your calendars, and we hope to see you there!

Upcoming Performance - Oracle Band to rock Whispers this Friday
On Friday, July 26th Oracle will be performing at Whispers Restaurant in Glen Burnie Maryland as we continue the summer season with a night of music, dancing, and partying until the wee hours of the morning.
Here are the details:
Whispers Restaurant
7954 Baltimore Annapolis Boulevard Glen Burnie, MD 21060-8188
www.WhisperShows.com
Directions to Whispers Restaurant
Whispers is a regular stop on the Oracle public performing schedule. We appear here on the last Friday of every month, and each and every party is unique. The thing they all have in common is that EVERYONE has a great time, whether you're 21 or 81.
Most folks like to come early & have a bite of dinner before the music kicks off. The food at Whispers is really good and the menu features a variety of steaks, chicken, seafood, and pasta, as well as a lighter fare of sandwiches, subs, and appetizers.
Oracle typically packs the house on Friday nights, so advance reservations are definitely recommended for a good table or if you are coming with a larger group of people. Call 410-768-3900 at least a day in advance to ensure a table.
Whispers is particularly good at accommodating larger groups. Are you celebrating a birthday, promotion, anniversary, or other special event? Whispers is just your place! Bachelorette parties are also very popular there...you can have your own designated seating area as a base of operations, yet still be a part of the party as a whole. Did we mention that the band will be more than happy to help acknowledge the event...whether it's a sing along of "Happy Birthday", or a special anniversary song, or a rousing version of "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" for the bride-to-be!!!
Here's a video clip from one of our performances last year:
Hope we see you there!!!

Photos from LA Singles Dance - May 2013
Although things started out a little slowly, by the time we got to 9:00 the dance floor was packed with folks out having a great time.
The LA Singles group is one of the largest Singles Organizations in the Baltimore / DC area, and their dances are unquestionably some of the best attended.
On this particular evening we were celebrating our bass player Jim Young's birthday, as well as a half dozen other birthdays in the crowd!

Photos from Oracle Band April 2013 Whispers Performance
Spring has finally arrived! The trees are budding, (much to the displeasure of those with allergies), but at least the threat of snow is a thing of the past and the temperatures are at last short-sleeve / flip flop comfortable!
As we headed into our usual last-Friday-of-the-month performance at Whispers Restaurant and Lounge in Glen Burnie Maryland the big our biggest celebration was for that of Oracle Band guitarist and birthday boy Mike Herrera, freshly returned from an overseas trip and sporting a sunburn that didn't sit too well with strapping on a guitar! Nevertheless, the evening came off without a hitch with the exception of some minor discomfort, eased by the presence of good friends, well wishes, and of course some decadent birthday sweets!!!
Naturally we got lots of other photos from the evening, and we thought we share them with you here.
Our next performance at Whispers will be on Friday, May 31st.

Report from the Scene - Oracle Band New Years 2012 - 2013 at La Fontaine Bleue
Wow! That pretty much sums up our feelings about how our Oracle Band New Years Eve party welcoming in 2013 went.
We were performing at La Fontaine Bleue in Glen Burnie Maryland, a spectacularly beautiful ballroom with stunning chandeliers, fountains, and fantastic cuisine.
With classic dance music spanning the decades from the 1960s all the way through today, the huge dance floor was swinging and swaying, jumping and gettin' down all night long.
This marked out third year in a row performing at La Fontaine Bleue, and things went incredibly smoothly. We'd like to thank the management and staff at La Fontaine Bleue for all their hard work and assistance in making this such a spectacular evening, from our load in starting around noon through to the last piece getting loaded out around 4:00AM!!!
